Local public opinion poll results

As you may have noticed, getting local public opinion data can be quite frustrating.

Metro Vancouver is very small on a global scale. Even BC, with less than 5 million residents sprinkled across almost a million km2, makes up only 0.06% of the global population, so it shouldn't be surprising to research a topic and only find surveys and polls done in Toronto, New York, Beijing, and beyond.

However... there are some good sources of local public opinion polling that you should consider bookmarking and checking often. I thought I'd highlight a few today...

Economics books: From love & art to war & disasters

Published by Mark Bodnar

I've mentioned before that the giant umbrella of economics seems to cover almost every other subject, and I've discussed the fact that pretty much anything that involves means & ends, desires & decisions, or creation & consumption has an economics perspective.

That broad definition is obvious from a quick scan of the titles listed below. These new books and ebooks -- all available for SFU researchers -- touch on the economics of everything from love, art & happiness all the way through to war, nuclear proliferation & natural disasters

I'm sure that many of you have already registered your personal account in our newest financial database: S&P Capital IQ. [...]

And if you've registered, then you've probably started exploring the web interface to see what sorts of data you can find and export... and you might have even watched some of these videos to be sure you are getting the most out of the database...

But have you installed the Excel Add-in part of the database yet?

In a rush to learn S&P Capital IQ? Watch some videos!

Published by Mark Bodnar

For those who missed it, we introduced a powerful new database earlier this week: S&P Capital IQ!

In the initial announcement I promised there would be follow-up blog posts highlighting CapIQ's features and functions. I certainly do plan to write such posts later this summer, but I thought I'd start with a note about S&P's support & training videos since so many people are now scrambling to learn the database.

Trending today... Cannabis business resources

Published by Mark Bodnar

There's an old saying that "twice is a coincidence, but three times is a trend."  In the last half hour I've spotted three new cannabis/marijuana business related resources in our collection, tipping us over into trend territory.

Such a trend toward information on the business aspect of marijuana isn't really a surprise: with legalization just around the corner, businesses have been scrambling for months (if not years) to line up a good starting position.  The people who produce the reports, data, and ebooks needed to support new businesses have also been scrambling to fill this new niche.

If you are among those who are looking into this new market (academically or entrepreneurially), check out these new resources available through the SFU Library:
