Use of cookies on the Library website
Where they are required for tools to work properly, we use session cookies for specific activities on our website: for instance when booking a group study room or using the Assignment Calculator.
The cookies we use do not track personally identifiable information such as your name and are not retained after your browser session ends.
Gathering website usage information
We use several tools to gather statistics about your use of the Library's main website and some related sites and services (such as Summit). We gather and review this data to improve our website's usability.
For this purpose we use browser cookies to gather information such as: your country, the type of device and operating system you are using, and how you have come to our pages (whether you were directed to the Library via a search engine, for example).
Google Analytics
Google Analytics gathers some information whenever you visit our site. We have configured IP Anonymization in Google Analytics, which requests Google to mask part of your IP address. For more information, see Google Analytics: Safeguarding your data.
Matomo
Matomo is an open-source tool that gathers browser information. This data is housed on SFU Library servers. For more information, see the Matamo Privacy Policy.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg gathers information about your use of the Library's website and then shows visually how visitors interact with specific webpages, including most commonly-clicked links on a page. For more information, see the Crazy Egg Privacy Policy.
Opting out
You can opt out by turning off cookies in the preferences settings in your browser or by using privacy mode (also known as private browsing or incognito mode) or similar options.
For Google Analytics, you can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
See the Crazy Egg Privacy Policy, Google Analytics: Safeguarding your data, and the Matamo Privacy Policy for additional ways to opt out.
Pages, resources and tools that are not included
Please be aware that the Library website links to many external and propriety sites and resources. The Library Catalogue, subscription databases, and other sites and resources add their own cookies, both for functionality and for measuring and tracking use.
