Accessing articles for alumni

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: When I try to access articles from various databases such as JStor, I see this message:

"Bad Request/Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand./Size of a request header field exceeds server limit."

Does this mean that my access to some databases has been changed? (I am an alumna.)

A: I think there are two things happening:

  1. The error message sounds like you may need to clear your browser's history, cookies and cache.
  2. In addition, off-campus access to online resources for SFU Alumni is restricted to the items listed in the Alumni Services guide. It is a small number of resources compared to the entire library collection. You can also search for JSTOR's open access and free content separately.
If you visit one of the SFU campus libraries in person and use a computer in the library, then you will gain more access to online resources. In addition, we try to make open access content (free to read) easier to find through our catalogue. Look for the open access icon and links that say "free or open access or Unpaywall".
