Journaling our Ecological Grief

There’s no clear-cut way to grieve for a place. It’s a specific kind of heartache, because it’s grief in anticipation, grief without end.

- Heather Hansman, The 4 Stages of Climate Grief

Join SFU's Ecological Chaplain, Jason Brown, and SLC Writing Services Coordinator, Julia Lane, for this opportunity to connect with one another and process our individual and shared ecological grief.

Writing is a powerful tool to support our complex thinking and emotional processing. Journaling as a writing practice can be especially healing because it allows us to sit with and speak to ourselves -- without the pressures of deadlines, grades, or outside readers.

In this workshop, Jason will share aspects of his own ecological chaplaincy practice and his understanding of ecological grief. Julia will then facilitate free-writing journalling exercises. At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to embark on a photographic/journaling experience and, if they wish, share back with the group to nurture deeper connections.
