Dates
Wednesday, February 8, 2023 - 4:00pm to 5:20pm
Location
via Zoom

All times are Pacific Time Zone (Vancouver, BC, Canada).

Part of Multilingual Week: Past Tense, Present Progressive, this round-table features three Graduate Writing Facilitators from the Student Learning Commons who are multilingual scholars in the fields of Education and Philosophy.

The focal questions are:

  • Who gets to celebrate multilingualism at SFU?
  • Where and when do we get to celebrate it?

In asking these questions, we are interested in examining how multilingualism is not currently experienced as a superpower in academic spaces. Further, we will discuss the systemic and structural changes that are needed if we want to embrace and celebrate multilingualism as a superpower, not just in our community spaces, but also in our classrooms.

The session will be 90 minutes total, with 45 minutes for the facilitated round-table discussion, 30 minutes for facilitated discussion and engagement with the audience, and 15 minutes for mingling and community
connection.
