Artificial intelligence and academic integrity
As a student:
- One of your core responsibilities is to ensure that you are writing with academic integrity while meeting the requirements for your course and assignment.
- You need to think critically about any sources you reference or tools that you use. Stretching your critical thinking is one of the key benefits of pursuing a degree!
- If working on your critical thinking skills is a current goal for you as a student, you can access Student Learning Commons' resources and consultations and the Ask a Librarian chat to build your critical thinking toolbox.
Always check with your instructor before using AI for an assignment.
Citing and attribution for AI tools
You need to cite all sources, work, words, and ideas that are not your own, including anything generated by ChatGPT or other AI tools. See our citation guides for
Ask a Librarian to get support with thinking about and citing your sources.
Other ethical considerations
Consider privacy, safety, and copyright: Don't share copyrighted or private information (including, for example, assignment guidelines or passwords) without express permission and without understanding how they will be used.
