About the workshop

ArcGIS Business Analyst is a web-based application that allows you to make smarter decisions for market planning, site selection, and customer segmentation by combining demographic, business, lifestyle, spending, and census data with map-based analytics. This workshop will help you learn key functions of the tool by working through a hypothetical use case using demographic and psychographic criteria.  
 
The workshop covers: 
  • An introduction on business analyst  
  • Bring in data  
  • Conduct a POI Search  
  • Define a specific area  
  • Run reports and infographics 
  • Create a color-coded map showing total PRIZM Population and dominant PRIZM Segment Population 
  • Test the suitability of 3 locations based on several variables  
  • Run a report for these locations 
  • Create a StoryMap as a visual communication method  

Requirements

Prerequisite

No previous knowledge of GIS is required.  

Software

An ArcGIS Online account. SFU students, staff and faculty are eligible for ArcGIS Online accounts for free of charge. If you don’t already have an existing ArcGIS Online account, you can log into ArcGIS Online with your SFU computing ID.
