Temperature in the Bennett Library

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Why is it so hot on the 2nd floor of the library?? I am here late right now (Nov.25 1:35 am) and I'm cooking in my seat with a T-shirt on and with both the windows open right next to me.
Can we please turn the heat down?
W.A.C.Bennett (SFU Burnaby)

A: Thank you for your feedback,
I've submitted a request to our HVAC department to investigate and remedy the over heating problem on the 2nd floor.

What is the availability of Study Rooms in the Library?

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: What is the Library Study room availability and booking requirements?

A: If you've completed all degree requirements except your thesis, you may be eligible to book a lockable study room at the WAC Bennett Library on the Burnaby campus. The study rooms have small windows that look over Convocation Mall.

Study rooms are available for master's or doctoral students writing their theses under the following conditions:

Silent Study Area, 6th floor of Bennett is SILENT

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: People need to be reminded that the 6th floor of Bennett is SILENT. It's extremely irritating when people are crowded around one cubicle chatting away. If you want to chat, go somewhere else. I shouldn't have to consider putting in ear plugs on the silent floor.

A: We are sorry to hear that you were being disturbed by talking on the 6th floor of the library. In the future if this happens again please feel free to come to the circulation counter on the 3rd floor. A staff member will go to the floor and remind patrons that this is a silent study area.

Library hours during final session

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Please can the library be opened 24 hours during the finals season? It is the only quiet and safe place to study on campus at 2am. I have tried studying in the rotunda but it is loud with people walking to get to residence from the bus loop and it is unbearably hot. The 24 hour service is provided during Fall and Spring and it feels the Summer students are being shortchanged. If it is not a feasible option maybe you could consider extended hours for the next two weeks. Thanks.

Reduction in Construction Noise?

Published by Dipa Barua
Your question or comment: Is there a possibility of the construction to cease during the last weeks of the semester? It is incredibly loud and distracting when sitting in the silent levels of the library and hearing hammering and drilling. Some of us rely heavily on this space during this time of the semester This is supposed to be a quiet area provided to students and this is the third semester we have had to put up with it.

Noise on the 5th Floor

Published by Dipa Barua
Q: People on the 5th floor (quiet study area) don't stop talking, and there are usually 2 ppl sitting at one desk and conversating, could you please make the no talking rule stricter and also put up signs that only one person allowed per desk?

More Silent Study Signs

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Now that there are 16 more PCs on the 6th floor, and therefore more traffic,
may I suggest more 'silent study' signs?

Which library?  Bennett (SFU Burnaby Mountain)

A: Thanks for the suggestion, an additional sign has been added by the computers.

Loud music in convocation mall

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. With these events always occurring outside the library they always blast the music way too loud that it reaches the 5th floor where people are trying to concentrate in a quiet environment its so bad that the walls literally vibrate please do something about this they should at least be able to respect that a library is right beside their speakers blasting this music and there is no need to have this music this loud please do something about this.

Request for an automatic stapler at Belzberg Library

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. Hi,
Would it be possible to have an automatic stapler (like those used in the Bennett library) installed in the Belzberg library as well?
Thanks

A. Hello,

Thanks very much for your suggestion. I will order an automatic stapler for Belzberg Library. We'll put it between the printer and photocopier and it should be in place in time for printing all those final papers.

Best regards,
Karen
