Citing

SFU Library has guides to the following citation styles:

You can also use Citation management software to collect articles, books, and other documents together in one place, and to create properly formatted references in almost any style in seconds. Citation management software helps you keep track of your sources while you work and store your references for later use.

See the page on Avoiding plagiarism to learn more about crediting other people's ideas in your writing.

Writing

The Student Learning Commons (SLC) provides in-person consultations, workshops, and resources to help you develop your writing, learning, and studying skills. See the SLC's Academic writing resources and Upcoming workshops for practical tips on writing papers in general. There are also some guides to writing specifically in History:

  • Writing a History Paper
A guide based on a workshop hosted by the SLC and SFU History students.

  • Writing About History
A guide from the University of Toronto with ideas for working with sources and asking historical questions.
