What is ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online?

We are pleased to announce that a new tool - ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online - is now available to SFU researchers and students.

ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online is a web-based platform that allows end users to access and work with remote sensing data.  As opposed to the conventional way of storing and analyzing imagery locally, this tool allows you to host and stream your imagery and raster collections as titled or dynamic imagery layers ready for immediate visualization and analysis plus you may make use of a wide range of imagery and other geospatial data from various sources. Specifically, the tool allows you to:

  • Get access to a wide range of imagery and other geospatial data from various sources, including Esri's Living Atlas.
  • Perform basic image processing tasks.
  • Perform some advanced analysis, such as change detection, object detection, and land cover mapping.
  • Easily access and work with remote sensing data without the need for specialized software or hardware.

How do I get access to ArcGIS Image?

You don't need to install any software. You only need an ArcGIS Online account to access the tool. SFU faculty, current students, and staff are eligible to create ArcGIS Online accounts by SFU computing ID. Please refer to the instructions on the ArcGIS Download page
