Embroidery machine: Media and Maker Commons

 Regular hours: Monday 1 - 5 pm; Tuesday - Friday 10am - 5pm; closed on holidays

The Media and Maker Commons has an embroidery machine for use by active SFU students, faculty, and staff.

Training and getting started

Before using the embroidery machine, you will need to complete online training to learn the minimum skills required to operate the machine.

After this online training, you can also do hands-on training with a member of our staff during which you will review basic principles and gain troubleshooting experience as you work with the machine.

Once you have completed the Canvas course, you can schedule an appointment with the Embroidery Machine in Canvas Calendar. Time slots are available in 180 minute intervals. If you need additional Embroidery Machine time, please contact us.

Materials and supplies

There are materials and basic equipment available for use, but we recommend bringing in any fabric, notions, sewing scissors or other supplies needed to create your projects. Embroidery thread, machine needles, and bobbin thread are provided by the Maker and Media Commons.

The machine available is the Brother Innov-is NS2750D. It is set up to create embroidery designs from the pre-programed library. We will soon make it possible to  create and upload your own designs.
