Library iPhone chargers

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. You're always out of iPhone chargers!!! Maybe buy more?

A. Thank you for pointing that out. We are always buying more iPhone chargers as well, but many of them do not last very long. They are used more frequently than most people use their personal chargers. We will be getting more soon.

Access SFU Library publication

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. Hi, I was surfing the net and saw two articles about myself.  I was wondering since I don't go to SFU, is it possible to get copies of the articles?

A. Thanks for your message and question.  Depending on the article information,  SFU Library may have the publication(s) in its collection.  Members of the community are more than welcome to visit any SFU library location to access the collection, including most electronic resources.  More details are available at Services to external borrowers.

Book request

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. May I have a book request, currently on reserve at SFU Burnaby, sent to the Belzberg Library?

A. If it is a reserve book, set aside for a course,  we can't send it to another campus.  They are short loans (mostly 4 hours) and it takes longer than that to go between campuses.  If you mean a regular  book that you have requested, I can send that to a different campus for you.  What is your ID number?

Semester-off privileges for undergrads at the SFU Library

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I went to request semester-off privileges at the Belzberg Library after being directed there by your FAQ page only to discover that such privileges apparently no longer exist. This was extremely disheartening to learn. When I finally have the time to indulge in leisure reading, the library has seen fit to close its doors to me. Why have semester-off privileges for undergraduates been removed?

Power outlets for study carrels on the 6th floor

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. Would it be possible to have power cord extensions installed on study carrels near the call numbers QH 541.5 to R 838.5 on the 6th floor of Bennett library? There are about 10 carrels without it. I've tried to use the power outlet on the wall but it's either too far from the carrels, or the power cables for the portable devices are often too short to reach the power outlet at the bottom of the wall. It would be greatly appreciated it.

A. Thank you for your suggestion and we'll consider installing power bars for the indicated study carrels.

Accessing SFU databases as a guest

Q. I am a psychologist in the community and looking for access to databases. I'm wondering if you offer database access to non-students and non-alumni for a fee. If so, what would the fee be to get access?

Check-out Laptops and Skype

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I have a question about the laptop rentals: Is Skype installed and usable? I have a Skype interview coming up, but my laptop is incapable of handling the program.

A. Yes Skype is installed and is usable on the check-out laptops.

Some of the laptops have a built-in camera and microphone, but I would suggest you also check out a headset while you're at Library loans just in case.

Q. I tried to print on the 7th floor. However the printer says that it cannot print my file. So I cancelled it. But when I did that, it did not give me back the ~$3.10. How do I get my money back?

A.  How to request a refund from Papercut:

Front-Line Customer Service

Q. Some staff at the desk are very arrogant and rude. I hope these people know that most students are not trying to make their lives difficult.  I am not disparaging the work that you guys do, and I am very appreciative of how hard the job can be, but please show some flexibility in dealing with students.
