Windows 8

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Windows 8 is awful. It is counter intuitive and its menus are too insubstantial or circuitous to use effectively. I really hope you do not put Windows 8 on the rest of the computers. Please either keep Windows 7 or wait for Windows 9. PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ON ANY MORE OF SFU'S COMPUTERS.

A: Thank you for your feedback. First off, you'll be happy to know that we have upgraded the pilot PCs from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. This update addresses some of the issues that people have had with Windows 8.

Most people have a preference for their favorite operating system, and urge all to switch to that operating system for whatever the reason might be, while damning others. At the end of the day, we run the operating system that will support the many applications that are needed for our university, as long as that operating system continues to be supported by the vendor and our infrastructure. Having said that, you'll be happy to know that at the current time we have no plans to expand the number of PCs that are running Windows 8.1.
