Comment about Factiva and Suggestion for Feedback Form

Published by Dipa Barua
Factiva is truly dreadful. Just sayin' (It would probably be better if the "holdings" page for an article took you to the right place in Factiva, but it just kind of dumps you by the side of the road.)

Also, how come this feedback form doesn't have -- under "which library?" -- a way to indicate that one is referring to online resources?

A: Regarding the question about Factiva holdings information, our Electronic Journals listings for Factiva titles should direct you to the journal or newspaper's latest headlines wherever possible.
See the following titles for example:

Wall Street Journal

South China Morning Post

CNN: CNN Newsroom

Reuters News

There are some unusual and obscure titles in our listing where the headlines linking does not work.  We could not discern a  pattern for why these titles do not work like the others, so for these ones, you would simply get logged into the Factiva database in order to conduct a search.

Factiva is also capable of direct article linking through openURL technology so long as some minimum data is provided from the original source to our link resolver service. Minimum data needed include: article title, journal/newspaper name, year or exact date of publication if a newspaper article (yyyy-mm-dd), and ISSN.

Here is a sample search for "sochi merchandise" via Library Search on our home page. The first result under "Newspaper Articles and More" directs you to our link resolver results page also known as "Where can I get this?" which will go directly to the article in the Factiva database using openURL technology.

Please let us know if you have any further comments or questions about accessing Factiva.
Thanks.
