Join us for an evening of poetry and lively conversation with two poets with ties to Surrey.

Local poets Kevin Spenst and Marc Perez will gather in SFU’s Fraser Library, at the SFU Surrey campus, to read from their recently published works A Bouquet Brought Back from Space, and Dayo.

This event is free and open to everyone!

Books will be available for purchase at the event from Black Bond Books. 

Speakers

Kevin Spenst is the author of sixteen chapbooks and three full-length books of poetry in addition to his newest A Bouquet Brought Back from Space (Anvil Press, 2024). He is one of the organizers of the Dead Poets Reading Series, has a chapbook review column for subTerrain magazine, occasionally co-hosts Wax Poetic on Vancouver Co-op Radio, and teaches poetry at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territory where he cohabitates with the one and only Cheryl Rossi.

Marc Perez

Marc Perez is the author of Dayo (Brick Books, 2024). His fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry have appeared in The Fiddlehead, EVENT, CV2, PRISM international, and Vallum, among others. Originally from Manila, he lives with his wife and two children in the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations.

Accessibility information

SFU Library’s Surrey branch location, Fraser Library, is located in Podium 3 of SFU at Central City, a brief walk from Surrey Central Skytrain station and numerous bus stops. Bike stalls are available outside. There are many public paid parking lots and street parking available in the vicinity of SFU Surrey available for visitors. Note that the Central City Mall parking is for retail shoppers, not SFU visitors.

The building is accessible at street level from the 102 Ave entrance. Accessibility buttons are available in the doorways.

The venue has individual accessible washrooms. All floors within the building are wheelchair accessible and serviced by elevators.
