What's new at the Fraser Library

Fraser Library, a popular and often favourite location for the SFU Surrey community, is expanding. Over the Spring 2023 semester, the library will add more than 200 square meters to its footprint, providing additional space for research, study, and collaboration.

The current approximate 1,800 square meters of space provides about 375 seats for group, quiet, and silent study and computer workstations. It also includes the Yosef Wosk Student Learning Commons and a games room. The library’s expansion reflects a growing campus which, over the past few years, has added a new building and the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering, and is currently planning a medical school.

Explore a unique collection

Fraser Library’s approximate 35,000 monograph collection supports research and instruction at Surrey campus and holds some unique titles including graphic novels. The library’s ever-growing game collection is a highlight among library users and includes PC and console video games as well as board games.

A current project led by Fraser Library employees will see streaming video games added to the collection in the new year. In part born from its legacy of TechBC and its ongoing collaboration with the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, Fraser Library and its staff specialize in the management and circulation of equipment, overseeing a complex collection of audio-visual gear.

This expertise in specialized non-traditional library collections and services combined with the ability to provide foundational library services and supports, well-positions Fraser Library to continue to be an active participant and collaborator at Surrey Campus and SFU.
