Access to Learning From Strangers

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: I am having a hard time retrieving this book: Weiss, R. (1995). Learning From Strangers : The Art and Method of Qualitative Interview Studies. Riverside:
Free Press.

It says that our library has access to an online version, but I am unable to view it. I have tried on both my computer at home and the computers within the school library, but I think perhaps the link is broken or the website does not provide very good access to it. Is there anyway I could gain online access to this book?

Limiting Catalogue Searches to Books Only

Q. The new interface is much harder to use than the old. There should be an easy way to limit searches to books only.  If I want to get articles, I will use Google or Web of Science.

Access to Online Texts for Non-Students

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I have invested in $35 charge for 4 month access to SFU library materials.  Several of the books recommended in history class are not available in hard book form, which I could sign out to read anywhere, but are available only as "full text online", which I can't access with my current library status.  I can appreciate the library is shifting more and more to digital access which is likely cheaper and provides more variety. But I feel that over time this disadvantages subscribers like me.

New Catalogue System Search Changes

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. The new system for finding references in the library is much worse than the previous system. There are a number of issues that make it very difficult and sometimes nearly impossible to use the new system.

1. The advanced search does not allow for searches prior to 20 years ago, when in fact many of us are searching for earlier references.  AND it is really frustrating that you cannot just put in a specific date - in the past, this has been the only way I've found a particular reference.

Issue with ProQuest ebrary site

Published by Anonymous

Q:  The ProQuest ebrary interface does not appear to be working properly (for me, at least). After logging into the  Library through my SFU account, the ebrary page opens, but then continues to act like it is loading over and over again, and does not respond to requests  when I click on the Download title button. I am not sure if this is a problem for other users, but I continually have problems trying to access/download ebooks from the ProQuest ebrary site.
