Math 708: Discrete Optimization

This course will be cross-listed with MATH 408. MATH 408 was previously assessed by the library, and the report can be found here: http://www.lib.sfu.ca/about/collections/courseassessments/math408.htm

MATH 708 will first be offered in the Fall of 2007 and every two years thereafter with an estimated enrollment of 5 students. It will be taught at the Surrey Campus.

As this course will now be offered to graduate students, additional materials will need to be purchased to support a higher level of research needs.

Ongoing cost: 5 x average book price $120 = $600
Existing collections of serials and bibliographic tools at the SFU Library are adequate to support this offering at Surrey.

MATH 709: Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimization

This course will be cross-listed with MACM 409. It will first be offered in the Fall of 2007 and every two years thereafter with an estimated enrollment of 5 students. It will be taught at the Surrey Campus.

As this course will now be offered to graduate students, additional materials will need to be purchased to support a higher level of research needs. Also, its location in Surrey requires the purchase of additional materials as Surrey's Math Collection is still in development.

The existing SFU Library book collection was assessed using Library of Congress subject headings for the topics covered for these courses. Related subject headings and our holdings are listed below. The first number indicates holdings at Surrey and the number in parentheses represents holdings at Bennett.

mathematical optimization 25 (552)
geometry 31 (225)
geometry, algebraic 6 (194)
linear algebraic groups 1 (57)

Ongoing cost: 10 x average book price $120 = $1,200
Existing collections of serials and bibliographic tools at the SFU Library are adequate to support this offering at Surrey.

MATH 742: Cryptography

This course will be cross-listed with MACM 442. It will first be offered in the Fall of 2007 and every two years thereafter with an estimated enrollment of 5 students. It will be taught at the Surrey Campus.
