Library Course Assessment for Political Science 331

Introduction
This is the Library's course assessment for POL 331Campaigns and Elections in the United States. This elective course will be offered on the Burnaby campus every fall semester with an expected enrolment of 68 students.
The Library has some collections to support this course, but monograph collecting is currently inadequate. Of 20 books listed on the course reading list, only two are now in the SFU Library collection. In addition to acquiring a copy of each of the books on the reading list, the Library will need to purchase and keep current a core collection of material on this topic.
The Library's collection of serials and bibliographic tools is sufficient to support this course. Costs associated with the additional book collecting required, both one-time and ongoing, are detailed below.

Total one-time costs: $2,259 The Library and the department of Political Science will share these costs over the coming years, and add the required books as we are able. The instructor of the course is aware that not all titles on this list will be available when the course is first offered.
Although the Library is actively collecting from our major US book wholesaler in this subject area, standing orders from CQ Press will need to be established at an average cost of $1,000 per year. This ongoing cost can be accommodated within the existing allocation for Political Science.
