Library Course Assessments for HIST 130, 366, 376, 456, 457

Introduction

This is the Library's assessment for History courses 130, 366, 376, 456, and 457.

History 130 will first be offered in the Fall of 2005 and annually thereafter. It will be an elective course with an expected enrollment of 60 students. After piloting this course, the enrollment will be raised to agree with other 100-level offerings. History 366 will first be offered in the Spring of 2006 and every Spring thereafter with an expected enrollment of 60-90 students. It will replace History 365 due to a change in faculty. History 376 will first be offered in the Fall of 2005 and every other year thereafter with an expected enrollment of 60. This is an elective course and replaces History 435. History 456 will be an elective course beginning in the Spring of 2006 and annually thereafter with and expected enrollment of 20 students. History 457 will also be an elective course first offered in the Fall of 2006 and annually thereafter with an expected enrollment of 20 students.

These course proposals came with lengthy reading lists which were used to complete these assessments.

The Library is collecting actively most of these areas. The Library has adequate monograph holdings overall, but there are some books on the course reading lists that are not in the Library collection and should be acquired. History 456 and 457 are in subject areas not previously taught in the History Department at SFU and will require additional collections activities.

HIST 130 – Modern World History

Although the majority of books on the course reading list are already held in the SFU Library, the following title is not available in the Bennett Library and copies will need to be acquired.

Although the majority of books on the course reading list are already held in the SFU Library, the following titles are not available in the Bennett Library and copies will need to be acquired.

Note:  The materials required for these courses are located in the WAC Bennett Library on the Burnaby campus.  This assessment is based on the assumption that the courses will be offered at SFU’s Burnaby campus.  If the courses were to be offered at SFU Surrey or Harbour Centre, or an off-campus courses, additional Library costs would be incurred.
