Total Cost
This is the Library's report on the proposed Graduate Diploma -- Foundations of Global Health Studies. This Diploma program is to begin 2006-3 and student demand is "conservatively predicted" as 20-50 students per year. Courses will take place at either the SFU Burnaby or Vancouver campuses and costs for each location are broken down separately in this report.
Bibliographic Tools:
MEDLINE, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, POPLINE, all provided by current library licenses, will be useful for locating resources for this program. Additionally, the Global Health database will be of great benefit to this program. This database was previously assessed for HSCI undergraduate programs and the Faculty of Health Science has already committed funding.
A license for the following database should also be acquired:
Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI). HAPI provides access to information on measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science. It is useful for identifying measures needed for research studies, grant proposals, assessments, and program evaluation. Click here for more information about the HAPI database. Cost of this database: $2528 for 5 simultaneous users.
Total ongoing costs for databases: $2528
Belzberg Library Resources:
If some or all of these courses are offered at the SFU Vancouver campus, a core collection of Global Health materials will be needed at the Belzberg Library. Unlike the Bennett Library, this location lacks a core collection of health resources, other than those specifically acquired for the Gerontology or Urban Studies programs; a broader core collection will be required. It should include basic reference sources in global health, WHO documents, statistical sources, etc.
One-time costs for establishing a core collection at the Belzberg: $3500
GLOH 501 Seminar -- Selected research applications in global health
This is an introductory seminar intended to orient new graduate students. There will be a range of topics, focusing on Health Research in a global context. Its intent is to conceptualize the current state of knowledge, research, and methodology in the Faculty and in topics they will be studying.
There are no library costs associated with this course. Assessments for the remainder of the diploma courses should provide adequate resources.
GLOH 510 Numerical, analytical, and computational foundations for global health studies.
