This is the Library's assessment for the Explorations in Arts and Social Sciences cohort program, to be offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at SFU Surrey. It was first offered on a pilot basis beginnning in 2005. Once approved, the expected enrollment is 100 students/year.
The program proposal included good course reading lists that were used to assess the adequacy of the SFU Surrey library's collections to support this course. Core collections will be required on site at the Surrey campus to support this reading-intensive program. Although many of the books on the reading lists are already in the SFU Library collection, Surrey will require an additional copy in the local collection.
An analysis of SFU Surrey holdings of titles on the reading lists revealed that the SFU Library's collection of journals and bibliographic tools, now primarily online and therefore accessible at Surrey, will be adequate to support this course. However, the book collection at SFU Surrey lacks all but a few of the titles on the lists.
