Introduction

This is the Library’s report for ENSC 224 Electronic Devices. This course will first be taught in 2006-2 and annually thereafter with an expected enrollment of 100 students per year. It will be a required course for students in the Electronics and Computer option in Engineering, and will replace an upper year technical elective for students in the Electronics option and an upper year science elective for students in the Computer option.

Monographs

SFU Library monograph holdings were analyzed using Library of Congress Subject Headings. SFU holdings are listed below, and include only the books on the main headings, not the sub-headings associated with these.

Bipolar transistors 22
Diodes, semiconductor 18
Electronic circuit design 108
Field effect transistors 24
Integrated circuits 94
Integrated circuits – Design and construction 66
Junction transistors 7
Semiconductors 371
Semiconductors – Design and construction 32
Solid state electronics 23

The library is actively collecting in this area and has adequate monograph holdings to support this course.

Serials

The SFU Library provides access to the following journals, either by direct subscription or via aggregated database, that will provide useful material for students in this course.

Current opinion in solid state & materials science
Electronics letters
IEEE Electron device letters

IEEE Journal of solid-state circuits
IEEE Spectrum
IEEE Transactions on circuits and systems
IEEE Transactions on electron devices
Journal of micromechanics and microengineering
Microelectronic engineering
Microelectronics international
Semiconductor international
Semiconductor science and technology
Semiconductors
Solid state technology

The Library has adequate serial holdings to support this course.

Bibliographic Tools

The primary bibliographic tools for students in this course, provided by library license, are the IEEE/IEE Electronic Library and INSPEC. Other general tools, such as Web of Science and the General Science Indexes, may also be of some use. No addtional resources are required.

Costs: there are no new library costs associated with this course.

Note:  The materials required for this course are located in the WAC Bennett Library on the Burnaby campus.  This assessment is based on the assumption that the course will be offered at SFU’s Burnaby campus.  If the course was to be offered at SFU Surrey or Harbour Centre, or as an off-campus course, additional Library costs would be incurred.
