Open Educational Resources (OER) at SFU: An Open Access Week Event

Note: This workshop will be run on the Zoom platform. You don't have to install the Zoom app on your computer, but it might make it easier to use all of the features. Make sure your computer has access to the Internet via an up-to-date browser.

To celebrate Open Access Week 2020 with our global community, the SFU Library and Centre for Educational Excellence (CEE) invite you to a workshop on Open Educational Resources (OER) at SFU. OER are teaching and learning resources created with the intention of being freely available to users anywhere, and can help circumvent copyright and access concerns that many of us are facing in the remote teaching environment. In this workshop, we will review the basics of OER and discuss some of their benefits for students and instructors. With the help of stories from SFU faculty and students, we will also delve into how you can find or create your own OER, and involve students in open pedagogy through in-class publishing projects.

Speakers include:

  • Olga Belikov (Centre for Educational Excellence)
  • John Born (Centre for Educational Excellence)
  • Dr. Nicky Didicher (Department of English)
  • Simran Sahota (Department of English)
  • Emerly Liu (Simon Fraser Student Society)
  • Hope Power (Teaching & Learning Librarian)
  • Kate Shuttleworth (Digital Publishing Librarian)
  • Jason Toal (Centre for Educational Excellence)
