Announcing Ebony Magnus, Associate Dean, Academic Engagement

Simon Fraser University Library is delighted to announce the appointment of Ebony Magnus as Associate Dean, Academic Engagement, effective January 1, 2023.

Since 2019, Ebony has been the Head of Belzberg Library at SFU Vancouver campus. In this role, she has overseen the daily operations of Belzberg Library, undertaken significant community engagement and cultural and arts projects, and provided strategic leadership for the Belzberg Library team. In addition, as a member of the Vancouver campus leadership team, she has worked closely with campus units to create a vibrant and inclusive environment for staff, students, faculty, and community members.

To her new portfolio as Associate Dean, Academic Engagement, Ebony brings a leadership approach grounded in sustainability and reciprocity, a strong record of collaboration, and an unflagging commitment to advancing equity.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to facilitate community-driven initiatives centered on transformative teaching and learning activities and library programming,” Ebony shared. “With accessibility a key component of this portfolio, I look forward to working closely with students, faculty, and staff to advance a justice-oriented vision for the SFU Library.”

Previous to her three years of strategic and operational leadership at SFU, Ebony was the Interim Library Manager at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Other past positions include the Assessment & User Experience Librarian at SAIT and User Experience and Assessment Librarian at Michigan State University.

 

Ebony has been an active member of professional organizations, including serving on the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Academic Librarianship and as the former Chair of the Kaleidoscope Program Task Force in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Her research interests include theory and practice of critical library assessment.
