Project 57 Week 43: Indigenous pedagogies

Indigenous pedagogy (or the method and practice of teaching) incorporates Indigenous worldviews into engagement with information. As Wendy Burton and Gwen Point (Stó:lō) write in their work on Indigenous adult education, “the rubric of Indigenous education [is]: look, listen, and learn” (2006, p. 37). They go on to say that education was context specific, with stories and ceremony being essential pedagogical tools (Burton & Point, 2006).

Comment: Closing the library 1 hour early is very inconvenient for me as a student. The Student Union Building already closes early so the library was my best option to study late. Now I am forced to move to the West Mall Center which has none of the resources that are provided at the library. 

More BYOD stations

Q: I would like to see more BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) stations, especially the ultrawide monitors which are connected via usb c (thunderbolt). The stations are always full during exam season and people come early and leave their stuff at the stations all day.

Kwantlen Traditional Territory include Richmond, New Westminster, Surrey, Langley, Mission, and the northernmost edge of Stave Lake (“Our lands”, Kwantlen First Nation).  q̓wa:ńƛəń translates to “tireless runner” and this is embodied in the Nations tireless work within their community (“Our culture and legacy”, Kwantlen First Nation). q̓wa:ńƛəń speaks hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, a dialect of the Halq’eméylem langauge group (

Project 57 Week 11: qiqéyt (Qayqayt First Nation)

Located in New Westminster, qiqéyt is the one of the smallest First Nations and currently without a land base. Chief Rhonda Larabee has been working on a land claim, noting in the 2003 NFB film that a land base is a legacy for the children and grandchildren of qiqéyt members.
