Our friend and colleague Mike McIntosh died suddenly in a cycling accident in North Vancouver on January 27th, 2019.
Mike was a Liaison Librarian based at SFU Vancouver's Belzberg Library, and one of its original employees, joining us when Belzberg opened in 1989.
Over the years Mike was a liaison to many SFU departments including Philosophy, Liberal Studies, International Studies, History, and Political Science. He also worked on many projects that continue to make a difference, including (most recently) revising the Belzberg Library website and improving the general Belzberg collections.
Mike was an avid cyclist and bicycle commuter for many years. For the reading pleasure of his fellow cyclists and Library staff, he even wrote up a typically detailed and thoroughly-researched guide for the Library staff intranet, which included maps and many very practical tips for commuting between the main SFU Library on Burnaby Mountain and the Library's branches at SFU Surrey and SFU Vancouver.
Among many other things about Mike, we enjoyed his dry wit and unflappable nature.
He will be dearly missed by colleagues in the Library and throughout SFU, and our deepest condolences go out to his family.
