Ventilation on the 7th floor

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: I was in the grad student lounge on the 7th floor to do some reading yesterday and left with a terrible headache after. I find that happens when an area has really poor ventilation (airflow). Was wondering if you could have facilities check this out as others may have to continuously hydrate to offset this discomfort? I did enjoy my experience using the floor, but I know something about the air just wasn’t right, especially when we have to wear masks in common areas too!

A: We have had the floor tested as part of the university's Air quality audit, and only one room required upgrades which have since been done. We had someone else complain on the weekend, staff investigated, and we followed up with Facilities yesterday. The systems have been tested in that area but it's possible they had been turned off by mistake. Hopefully this is resolved and staff here will check on it regularly for the next while. But please let us know if you experience the same problem again.
