Student Learning Commons: Types of consultations available to students

Types of Consultations

The Student Learning Commons offers free one-on-one consultations at Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver to SFU students taking credit courses.

Writing consultations

Develop and improve strategies and skills for more effective academic writing, including cover letters and résumés for Co-op or other positions related to your academic program.

For assistance with job-related cover letters and résumés, consult SFU Career Services or the Career Management Centre.

Note: SLC staff and peer educators do not proofread or edit your work but do help you develop your own effective proofreading and editing strategies.

Learning consultations

Enhance strategies such as time management, exam preparation, and note-taking.

Conversation consultations

Strengthen English conversation skills (designed for EAL students). Students coming for a consultation may bring one friend (maximum 2 students per consultation).

French (Fall & Spring at Burnaby only)

Develop and improve writing abilities in French. A French-speaking graduate writing facilitator helps students to internalize concepts and strategies for academic writing in French, and provides effective feedback and additional writing resources where needed.
