November 5, 2004

This is the Library’s assessment for MBB 496 Joint Honors Undergraduate Directed Readings and Research. This course will first be offered in 2005-3 and every semester therafter with an expected enrollment of less than 24 students. It is intended only for students who are taking a joint MBB/Business or MBB/CS honors degree.

Students in this course undertake directed reading and part-time scientific research in an area of molecular biology or biochemistry. As the specific topics will vary with the students, it is not possible to assess the adequacy of specific library collections to support the course. However, the SFU Library has been supporting the existing similar courses MBB 490, 491, 492, 493 with general MBB collections.

The Library's electronic journals in MBB will be useful resources for students in this course, as will the growing mongraph collection in this subject area. The Library also provides access to several bibilographic tools that will be useful for students in this course: Biosis Previews, SciFinderScholar, BioMedCentral Faculty of 1000, Web of Science, and Medline, among others.

The Library has adequate resources to support this course.

There are no new library costs associated with this course.
