SFU's brief to the statutory review of Canada's Copyright Act

SFU's brief to the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology (INDU), outlining the University's recommendations for the statutory review of Canada's Copyright Act, has been made available on the committee's website and is available on the Copyright law & policy page.

SFU makes three key recommendations:

  • Do not make changes to fair dealing at this time.
  • Clarify that a contract cannot override a user's rights under fair dealing.
  • Clarify that tariffs for the use of literary works are not compulsory.

Questions about the brief or the recommendations can be directed to the Copyright Office at copy@sfu.ca.
