SFU Terms of Service: Your privacy and use of the HathiTrust Library
The information on this page is collected for the University under the general authority of the University Act (R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 468), the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165), and SFU Policy GP-24, "Fair Use of Information and Communications Technology". It is related directly to and needed by HathiTrust and the University in order to provide and administer access to HathiTrust. The information collected at the time of login will be used only for the purposes of sufficiently identifying a unique user of the system or for troubleshooting sign-on issues.
SFU’s authentication system sends to HathiTrust only the following data elements: your first name, last name, SFU email address, and the user group you belong to (e.g., student, faculty, staff).
Your personal information will be stored outside of Canada and HathiTrust employees located in foreign jurisdictions have the ability to access personal information submitted for technical support purposes. Under a lawful order made in that jurisdiction your personal information may be available to the government of a foreign jurisdiction or its agencies. Therefore, Canadian privacy law protections may not apply. You may wish to consult HathiTrust’s privacy policy.
The University requires your consent before it can disclose your personal information to jurisdictions outside of Canada.
