What will happen if I don’t comply with the university’s copyright policies and licensing agreements?

Simon Fraser University's copyright policies align with the Government of Canada’s copyright legislation (Copyright Act) and outline the institution’s requirements of faculty, staff and students to comply with all legal requirements. 

Simon Fraser University is committed to compliance in all copyright matters. It is the responsibility of each individual to comply with copyright laws and respect copyright ownership and licensing. The use of copyright protected materials without proper consent may be actionable under both the Copyright Act and the Criminal Code. In addition to any actions that might be taken by any copyright owner or its licensing agent, the University will take any breaches of its copyright policy very seriously. In the case of employees, disciplinary procedures may be applied. In the case of students, disciplinary action for academic and/or non-academic misconduct may be applied.

Where and how can I access Adobe products at the SFU Library?

Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on all Library computers, for viewing, printing, and sharing PDFs.


About Acrobat Creative Cloud (Creative Suite)

The Adobe Acrobat Creative Cloud includes programs such as Acrobat Pro, as well as InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop. For a complete list of the applications that are included, see Adobe (SFU IT Services).

  IMPORTANT: Getting started with Adobe Creative Cloud

Note that you will need to set up an Adobe account before you can use Creative Cloud products in the Library or in other SFU computer labs.  

Once you register, it may take several hours before your account is ready.

You can find workstations with installed Creative Cloud software in the SFU Library, and on Library laptops that you can borrow.

  • In the Fraser Library, look for Macs and PCs labelled "Adobe CC – Installed."

Library laptops to borrow (Bennett and Fraser)

Some laptops at the Bennett (SFU Burnaby) and Fraser (SFU Surrey) libraries are loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud, and may be borrowed.

  • To borrow one, ask for an Adobe Creative Cloud laptop at the counter where you would usually borrow a laptop (look for the Service and Equipment or Loans desk).

Where are the reference indexes?

The Reference Indexes are located on the 6th floor of SFU Burnaby's Bennett library. They are located along the north side of the floor, currently shelved besides the Statstics Canada section.

Where are the washrooms in the Library?

At SFU Burnaby's Bennett Library, washrooms are located on every floor. Consult the Washrooms entry under Floor Plans, for detailed directions. 

At both the Vancouver and Surrey campuses, washrooms are available outside the library.

Where can I digitize VHS and audio tapes near SFU Surrey (Fraser Library)?

The Fraser Library no longer has facilities for converting analogue audio/video materials into digital files. 

However Surrey Libraries (the public library system) may have equipment and support available: see their Make It Digital service for more information. 

Current SFU faculty, staff, and students, may also use studios and equipment at the Library's Media and Maker Commons (W.A.C. Bennett Library at SFU Burnaby). 
 

Where can I find a paper cutter?

At SFU Burnaby's Bennett Library there is a paper cutter on the third floor, near the printers and photocopiers.

At SFU Vancouver's Belzberg Library there is a paper cutter near the photocopiers. 

At SFU Surrey's Fraser Library, a paper cutter and other office supplies that can be found in the Library's print/copy room (3625).

 

Where can I find a pencil sharpener?

At the Bennett Library, a pencil sharpener, and other office supplies can be found at the stationery table near the printers on the 6th, 5th, and 3rd floors (including Reserves).

At Belzberg, a pencil sharpener, and other office supplies can be found next to the photocopiers.

At the Surrey library, a pencil sharpener, and other office supplies, can be found in the Library's print/copy room (3625).

 

Where can I find a stapler?

At SFU Burnaby's Bennett Library, a stapler and other office supplies can be found at the stationery table near the printers on the 6th, 5th, and 3rd floors. There is also a stapler at the table near the photocopier in Reserves on the 3rd floor.

At SFU Vancouver's Belzberg Library, a stapler is available near the photocopiers.

At SFU Surrey's Fraser Library, a pencil sharpener and other office supplies can be found in the Library's print/copy room (3625).

Where can I find a tutor?

Student Learning Commons

The Student Learning Commons (SLC) provides "strategy tutoring" for SFU students, That is, we will help you develop writing, reading, exam preparation, and other academic strategies you can apply to your course material. 

Course content help

For course content questions, be sure to talk with your professor or TA. They really want you to use their office hours!

Content tutors

If you are looking for a "content tutor," that is, someone other than your professor or TA to help you learn the specific content of your courses, here are a few places to try:

  • Help for MATH courses and FAN X99 is available on a drop-in basis in the Department of Mathematics Workshops and Open Labs.  
  • Support is available for several lower-division science and math courses through the Science & Math Peer Academic Support.
  • For Statistics courses, email the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences at stat@sfu.ca, and specify the course for which you would like help.
  • A number of SFU Departments maintain lists of graduate students who will tutor for a fee. Contact each department directly from this list .
  • The talkSFU discussion forum has a Tutor Exchange in which private tutors serving SFU advertise their services and students post requests for tutors.
