Adaptive Technology - ZoomText 9.1 Magnifier

ZoomText Magnifier is an advanced screen magnification program that enlarges and enhances everything on the computer screen up to 36 times. Students using ZoomText Magnifier in the library will be able to search the catalogue, databases and the Internet.

Starting ZoomText Magnifier

ZoomText is configured to load automatically when you login to the Adaptive Technology Workstation.

You can also start ZoomText using any of the following procedures:

  • On the Windows desktop, select the ZoomText 9.1 program icon.
  • In the Windows Start menu, choose Programs, then the ZoomText 9.1 folder and in there the ZoomText 9.1application .
  • Using the keyboard:
    • Press Ctrl+Esc to open the Start Menu.
    • Press P until Programs is selected, then press Right Arrow to open the submenu.
    • Press Z until ZoomText Magnifier is selected, and press Enter.

Tips for ZoomText Magnifier

To figure out the function of the Tools, click on the Question mark on the top right corner of the ZoomText window, then on the desired Tool.  This also provides the hotkeys for each tool. Full descriptions are located in the Help section.

Right click to exit any Tool, including the Question mark, to exit the Tips function.

The screen can be magnified up to 36 times so it is very easy to lose screen orientation when using the full zoom window. Use the Magnification Hotkeys:

  • To increase magnification: ALT + NUMPAD PLUS
  • To decrease magnification: ALT + NUMPAD MINUS

The ZoomText Magnifier also offers several types of zoom windows that can make it easier to know where you are on the screen.

Setting

Description

Full

Displays a zoom window that occupies the entire screen.

Overlay

Displays a zoom window that lies on top of the normal screen and can be sized and moved to occupy any area.

Lens

Displays a zoom window that moves over the normal screen like a magnifying glass, displaying what is directly beneath it. The lens automatically follows as you move the mouse pointer, type text and navigate through your programs.

Line

Displays a zoom window that moves up and down the screen like a magnifying ruler, displaying what is directly beneath it. The line automatically follows as you move the mouse pointer, type text and navigate through your programs.

Docked (Top, Bottom, Left or Right)

Displays a zoom window that occupies half of the screen. The options are: top, bottom, left or right. The height (or width) of the zoom window can be adjusted to occupy a larger or smaller portion of the screen.

Set Line window height to cursor height

As the text cursor moves through larger or smaller text, the height of the Line window increases or decreases, so that only the current line of text is displayed
