Comment about Factiva and Suggestion for Feedback Form

Published by Dipa Barua
Factiva is truly dreadful. Just sayin' (It would probably be better if the "holdings" page for an article took you to the right place in Factiva, but it just kind of dumps you by the side of the road.)

Also, how come this feedback form doesn't have -- under "which library?" -- a way to indicate that one is referring to online resources?

Access to a Book on Wiley Online

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Hi!  I am trying to access a book supplied by Wiley Online but cannot seem to gain access.  Is there a special procedure I need to follow for this?

The book is called, "Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: Management and Policy Perspectives of FASD".
Which library?  Bennett (SFU Burnaby Mountain)

Switch from ebrary to eDuke?

Published by Dipa Barua
Q: Did you recently switch from ebrary to eDuke?  Like, within the last week?  I printed 2/3 articles from I book I needed last week using ebrary.  I had to sign up for an ebrary account and then download the pdf to do this.  When I went to print the third chapter I needed today, when I searched the link though the library it would send me to eDuke to view the article online.

They do not appear to offer anyway to view the whole text as a pdf, and accordingly I cannot print it out to read.

Feedback on Lynda.com

Published by Dipa Barua
Q: I would just like to let the library and SFU in general know how much I appreciate having access to Lynda.com. It's great to be able to access all those tutorials when and as I have time for them and to have them broken down into manageable bits. This really helps me maintain and advance my marketable skills while I'm studying - and brushing up on software (from Photoshop to Excel) helps me present and carry out my academic work more effectively too. I really hope SFU maintains this service for students.

Trouble using MyResearch in ProQuest

Published by Dipa Barua
Q: Very frustrating trying to use Canadian Newsstand today. I cannot access my saved documents and have had to repeat the search several times. I end up emailing each document separately.

A: I'm sorry you have been having problems with using MyResearch in ProQuest.  I have been in touch with the vendor and their response is that the problem is likely with RefWorks as the two products are closely tied.

Unable to access American Chemical Society Database

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I am retired chemistry professor who likes to keep up with chemical literature. I cannot access the American Chemical Society data base on SFU library web site even though I can get into the other journal s such as Royal Society. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks.

A. We are having access issues with all the American Chemical Society journals at the moment. I have been in touch with the vendor and we are working on restoring access as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience while we resolve this issue. I will notify you when access is restored.

Accessing an online book

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I am having trouble accessing an online book, "Sliammon Life, Sliammon Lands." by Dorothy Kennedy and randy Bouchard. I used it a few days ago, but for the last few days the link seems to be unusable. It is on the Ebrary site. I need to access this book as part of a project. Thanks!

A. Could you tell me how you are accessing the title? For example what link are clicking on to get to the title, are you going though the library catalogue?

Try this link and let me know if you still cannot access.
