Saving records when writing a research essay

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: It would be very helpful if you could have more than one list of saved records. Working on two or more papers at the same time happens a lot and if you could have a separate list for each paper would be very handy.

A: When you Sign in to the Library Catalogue, you can create a list of Favourites (the pin icon) and use the "Add Labels" feature to organize your list of saved favourites.

Accessing articles for alumni

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: When I try to access articles from various databases such as JStor, I see this message:

"Bad Request/Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand./Size of a request header field exceeds server limit."

Does this mean that my access to some databases has been changed? (I am an alumna.)

A: I think there are two things happening:

Access to Bilingual Research Journal

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: I can't get access to the following journal article online: Lee, Jin Sook, & Oxelson, Eva. (2006). "It's Not My Job": K-12 Teacher Attitudes Toward Students' Heritage Language Maintenance. Bilingual Research Journal, 30(2), 453–477.

The error message that I'm getting from Google Chrome is that "www-tandfonline-com.proxy.lib.sfu.ca redirected you too many times." I cleared the cookies but it didn't make a difference.

Accessing Fundamentals of Microfluidics

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: How do I get the full text of the following book in the SFU library? The full text link didn't work:

Fundamentals of Microfluidics and Lab on a Chip for Biological Analysis and Discovery

NFB campus access link

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: The NFB Campus Access link for the video, "The Sterilization of Leilani Muir" (National Film Board of Canada) doesn't seem to be working. The link takes me to the NFB site, but there is no online access to the film.

A: We've contacted the vendor and believe that the problem has been resolved.

Subscription to EdCan network

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: I am wondering why the SFU library does not have a subscription to the EdCan network?

A: The library is in fact subscribed to Education Canada magazine. The library has it in print format since the as early as 1969 and it is also indexed in one of our subscribed databases “Education Source” with full text since 2002. As an open access journal, the record also refers to the journal’s archive on its website.

Access to article on Project Muse

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: Unable to open article, "The Truck Driver Experience: Identifying Psychological Stressors from the Voice of the Driver", on Project Muse. SFU doesn't have permission. I need this quite urgently for my paper.

Digital copy of The Moral Background

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: The Ebook Central digital copy of Gabriel Abend's "The Moral Background: An Inquiry into the History of Business Ethics" (Princeton UP, 2014) is not working properly. It cuts off at Chapter 7 and so is missing the Conclusion, Index, Notes, etc. It's been like this for a few months. Since we're paying for it, we ought to at least get the whole thing online.

Loading results on catalogue

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: It is really annoying to have to constantly click "load more results" if the list is large. Why not just bring up the whole list?

A: We are not able to accommodate your suggestion to display all of the results on a single page. The vendor for our library catalogue limits the display to 10 records per page. You can navigate through the pages more quickly by clicking on the page navigation tool on the bottom right hand corner of the results page:

Downloading PDFs from Techstreet

Published by Dipa Barua

Q: When attempting to download Risk Assessment Techniques CAN/CSA-ISO/IEC 31010-10 (2015), a pop-up appeared “failed to load”. I did troubleshoot the issue and can load any other PDF file from the library catalogue.

A: Secure PDFs from Techstreet require specific software to open. Please see the following note, which appears on the library catalogue listing page for resources in the Techstreet Standards collection:
