A: As you've probably discovered, we do have some older editions of the same text in the collection [http://is.gd/x0gLfu]. Those are almost certainly copies that were bought for our short-term-loan Reserve collection at the request of previous instructors, and that were later moved to the regular collection when the course was over.
I don't usually buy required textbooks unless the course instructor requests that copies be put on reserve (short-term loan periods) -- thus ensuring maximum access. As the budget is limited, I try to focus my spending on resources that will supplement the required text. Have you spoken to the instructor about the possibility of having some copies bought for the Reserve collection?
