Library Catalogue search issues

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I would just like to let you know that the update that occurred to the Library Catalogue search (whenever it was) has made it worse. I have been attending SFU since 2011 (undergrad and masters), and I am finding that throughout this past semester it has been agonizing trying to find articles. The search system does not seem to recognize papers that I readily have access too. I instead have to go into every journal and download which takes so much longer. I am not sure why the search function is not matching terms easily and  I am not sure who to talk to about this. In short it is making finding relevant literature much more difficult. I have never had this issue before this past semester.

A. I'm sorry that you are finding it difficult to locate articles.

Please note that during this past weekend, the SFU Library Catalogue was, unfortunately, unable to retrieve journal articles.  This problem originated with the external vendor of the software that the Catalogue runs on and, as of Monday, the vendor report the problem as resolved. Library Search retrieves journal articles from the Catalogue so it, too, was unable to show articles.

If you have specific examples of searches that don't meet your expectations that you've encountered, please do pass them on to me.  We launched a new Catalogue in May 2017 and continue to troubleshoot access to individual resources such as journals or journal articles, working with the Catalogue's software vendor to resolve issues.
