Diana
I’m a fourth year student majoring in English Literature. I'm an active participant in Vancouver's street dance community and have organized many battles and workshops throughout the Lower Mainland. Aside from dancing, my interests include snowboarding and reading. My favourite works of literature chronologically range from Beowulf to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and I enjoy reading medieval authors like Chaucer just as much as I enjoy contemporary authors such as Louise Erdrich. I have three on-going part-time jobs. I've been working as a shoe cobbler for 5 years, and I also teach snowboarding and breakdancing—depending on the season. I'm interested in just about everything, and I love striking up conversations with new people in hopes of learning new things!
Jennifer
My name is Jennifer (but you can call me Jenn). I am in my fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a Kinesiology Minor. Outside of class I play music, play badminton, and do martial arts. I also enjoy reading, laughing, karaoke, and food (yum!). I love to travel, meet new people, and try new things. I’m excited about this program. I hope to see you in the Fall!
Mohammed
I'm Mohammed. I'm a graduate student studying cardiac diseases and drug testing in the Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology program. I enjoy cooking, playing video games, and mixed martial arts. Since moving to Vancouver from Ontario, where I studied at McMaster University, I have volunteered at the 2010 Paralympic Games, hiked a mountain (to the peak) and biked the seawall. In the future, I see myself studying in medicine –perhaps becoming a cardiac surgeon. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you!
Nisha
I’m Nisha. I’m a fourth-year student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Linguistics. I love listening to music and have a penchant for Korean pop and Japanese rock. I am an avid reader and am always in the middle of at least one book. Some of my favourite authors include Stephen King, Lee Child, and Robert Jordan. I am active on campus as the President of the Psychology Student Union (PSU) and the Treasurer of the Linguistics Student Union (LSU). When I am not volunteering as a research assistant in the Attention and Memory Lab, I can be found in the LSU common room, playing Pokémon Pinball or solving a Rubik's Cube.
Sandy
My name is Sandy. I am in my second year at SFU. I plan to jointly major in French, History, and Political Science. I am originally from China and came to Vancouver when I was 9 years old. As I was growing up, I lived in various places. I love meeting new people. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and listening to music. I have also practiced both ballet and Taekwondo for many years. Besides school, I volunteer with the SPCA, walking dogs on the weekends. I look forward to meeting you and having lots of fun during the school year!
Sanishtha
My name is Sanishtha. I’m currently a first year business student. I was born in the island of Mauritius, located close to Madagascar and South Africa. I moved to Vancouver at the age of 12. I speak both English and French. My career goals include graduating with a major in accounting or finance. My favorite course is Mathematics. I’m an outgoing person who loves to socialize and hang out with friends. I enjoy watching comedies, listening to music, swimming, dancing, playing soccer and volleyball, and going on outdoor adventures. I also attend dance schools and my favorite types of dance include Contemporary Arts, lyrical, and hip-hop. I look forward to meeting you!
Sheryl
I’m Sheryl. I am a fourth year student majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. I can speak Hindi, and I enjoy watching Bollywood movies. I also have a passion for dance. I love meeting new people and learning more about them and their cultural backgrounds. Once I graduate, I would like to travel, perhaps around Southeast Asia. I look forward to this new experience of being a Conversation Partner!
Sol
My name is Sol and I’m a 3rd year English literature student. I focus on Canadian literature, but I also have an ardent curiosity about medieval literature. I completed my lower division courses at Douglas College where I also worked as a peer tutor at the college writing centre and co-facilitated the ESL Study Hall. Out of school, I love to read and discover new films in foreign languages – especially in French, which I speak fluently. I have a penchant for photography, though I admit I know very little about cameras. In 2009, I traveled to India where I volunteered as a daycare worker in a village slum north of Delhi. I can only say my experience there was broad and profound, but perhaps more importantly, it was very, very hot.
Vicky
I’m Vicky. I’m a fourth year Linguistics major. I am also pursuing an Education minor with hopes to go into The Professional Development Program (PDP). I have just completed the Teaching English as a Second Language Certification (TESL) program last semester. I am extremely involved with campus life as I am involved in countless clubs. I am the chair of the Linguistics Student Union, and a LEAD alumni. Other than studying and hanging out at school, I love going to the beach, watching movies, and shopping. I am always up for meeting new people, so I would love to meet you!
