Sound Recordings Collection

The Sound Recordings Collection offers over 9,000 albums, compact discs, cassettes, and streaming music for use by members of the university community.

1. Location

The Sound Recordings Collection is located in the Media Resource Centre (Room 3100) on the Third Floor of W.A.C. Bennett Library.

3. The Collection

Classical music, contemporary art music, ethnic music, jazz, rock, and opera, as well as a small collection of poetry and plays are represented in the Sound Recordings Collection. The Collection is accessible via the library's catalogue. Search by composer, performer, or by title of the work, as well as subject headings for musical forms.  You are welcome to ask the Media Resource Collection staff for assistance in locating items.

4. The Users

Students, lecturers, faculty and teaching assistants may listen to music from the collection at listening stations in the Media Resource Centre. The Schools of Contemporary Arts and Communication, the Faculty of Education, the Departments of English, French, Geography, History, Sociology and Anthropology, the Centre for Canadian Studies and the Humanities Program are among those whose members have used the Recordings Collection. Users from all disciplines are welcome.

Instructors may borrow recordings on a one week loan. Students may borrow recordings on three day loan for use in a presentation or assignment. Instructors may place recordings on reserve in the Media Resource Centre for reserve loan periods or for use in the Library only. Playback equipment is available in some classrooms or may be borrowed from the Learning and Instructional Development Centre.

5. Building the Collection

The Media Resource Centre staff are pleased to take suggestions for additions to the Recordings Collection.
