Introduction to Web GIS

Designed for researchers who are new to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), this 2-hour workshop will introduce the basics of web-mapping technology using Google Maps and Google Fusion Tables.

Web GIS enables users to create rich, interactive maps and provides insight via the spatial representation of data.

Topics will include:

  • finding coordinates
  • adding GIS layers
  • working with Google Maps
  • understanding map mashups, and
  • analyzing your map

The workshop assumes attendees have no previous experience with GIS.
