RefWorks: How do I configure RefWorks' Write-N-Cite tool for use when I'm off campus?

Windows

After downloading a copy of Write-N-Cite [choose to "Run" Write-N-Cite"]:

• From the Start Menu select Programs then RefWorks.
• Select the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility.
• Enter the following URL in the box that pops up:
• http://proxy.lib.sfu.ca/login?url=https://refworks.scholarsportal.info/Refworks/?WNC=true
• Do NOT press the Enter/Return key.
• Ensure that there are NO BLANK SPACES on either side of the URL above.
• Click OK
• In order to use Write-n-Cite III, you must have the following loaded on your PC:
  • Microsoft Word 2003 and up
  • Windows XP or later
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 and up
• If you are running older versions of Windows or Office, please install Write-n-Cite II
• You may need to restart your PC
• You should not need a Group Code in order to use Write-N-Cite. If, after following the instructions above, you are prompted for a Group Code, please contact sfu-refworks@sfu.ca.

Macs

After downloading a copy of Write-N-Cite:

• Unstuff the file called macwncinstall.dmg (Safari and IE users will receive a file called archive.sitx and which should be unstuffed).
• Drag Write-N-Cite to the desired location -- typically your Applications folder.

• Then activate Write-N-Cite.
• Select Preferences from the Write-N-Cite menu .
• Select the Proxy option and enter the Proxy Server URL:
• http://proxy.lib.sfu.ca/login?url=https://refworks.scholarsportal.info/Refworks/?WNC=true
• Do NOT press the Enter/Return key.
• Ensure that there are NO BLANK SPACES on either side of the URL above.
• Restart Write-N-Cite for this proxy configuration to take effect
• Please note that Write-N-Cite does NOT install to the MS Word Tools menu of a Mac, you may launch Write-n-Cite from your desktop instead.
• In order to use Write-N-Cite v.2.5 on your Mac, you must have the following:
  • Microsoft Word for Mac 2004 and 2008
  • Mac OS X version 10.3 or later (including Leopard)
• If you're running older versions of Mac OS or Microsoft Word for Mac, please install Write-N-Cite v. 2
• You should not need a Group Code in order to use Write-N-Cite. If, after following the instructions above, you are prompted for a Group Code, please contact sfu-refworks@sfu.ca.
