Budget and Finance
Year-end budget projections continued.
Access and Resources
100 new e-journal records were added or modified in the CJDB
101 e-journal records deleted
Databases investigated /trials set up: Biomedical and Life Sciences Collection, Perdita Manuscripts, Criminal Spectrum, Encyclopedia of Popular Music Online.
New resources this month: Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports 1974 – 1996; various online journal backfile collections in selected subject areas.
Meetings with Vendors
- Collections and Serials had annual meeting with EBSCO (serials agent) to review account and learn about developments
- Don took part in a conference call with Swets to provide feedback on a new product that will integrate ScholarlyStats with the Swetswise
- Gwen worked with Swets and UBC to begin planning serials workshop in Vancouver for May
- Gwen met with representative from Adam Matthew Digital Group

New Journal Price Queries,Orders, and Cancellations
Christine responded to 16 pricing requests from liaison librarians, and sent the following to Acquisitions:
- 22 new journal and standing orders
- 24 order for journal backfiles
- 1 cancellation
- 1 cessation (reported to Collections by Serials unit)
E-books
Don continued his e-book co-ordination activities, including troubleshooting access problems and establishing procedures with Acquisitions and Cataloguing as needed. Specific activities:
- dealt with access problems with ebrary—when SFU users access ebrary it seems to freeze on them; Don and Nina Saklikar continue to follow up with ebrary.
- followed up on our order for the Canadian Health Sciences Collection in ebrary which was not activated when it should have been.
- placed more orders for liaison librarians for Wiley and Elsevier major reference works.
Scholarly Communication
Gwen began planning for May event on Open Access Publishing. Gwen and Sandra Wong worked with group planning CLA pre-conference on scholarly communication.
Other
Megan: taught 19 classes to 272 students in Health Sciences, with assistance from Nicole, Martha and Ron; responded to 20 email reference questions; held 3 reference appointments; finalized documentation in preparation for leave.
Don: spoke at the Collections Analysis Symposium in Edmonton in February about Scholarly Stats; spoke to SLAIS class (LIBR 557) about managing electronic resources in the academic library; worked on mapping database order numbers to db of db records for the ERMS; met with Frances Dodd to review implementation of ERMS; continued to meet with CUFTS ERMS group and held a conference call with the ERMS partner libraries to update them on ERMS development; started working on circulation reports in III and investigating how to adjust the SCAT tables; finalized panel for CUFTS presentation at BCLA conference in April.
Christine : attended Feb. 6 ERM meeting about the database of databases part of the new electronic resources management system; participated in EBSCO Serials meeting with Lisa Jane Watson; attended Lynn Copeland’s annual meeting with CUPE staff; c ompleted a spreadsheet showing our print-only subscriptions since last reported in 2005, for distribution to liaison librarians; worked with staff in Serials to clean up order records for online journal backfiles according to new standard; continued work on STO project and lib-use-only stacks lists.
Gwen: together with Nina Smart and Karen Marotz, met with library rep and Chair of Gerontology to review library matters; met with Sarah Lawson to orient her to Collections Management; with other AULs, met with New Zealand visitor at CODE; attended Mark Leggott’s “Repository Redux” talk at UBC; attended Library Council, Planning Committee and Admin group meetings, Senate Committee on Graduate Studies, and IFLA Pre-Conference planning committee meetings; one week of vacation.
