Finding Reserve materials
The Bennett Library Reserve collection, in Burnaby, is housed next to the Circulation Desk. The Belzberg Library Reserves collection, at SFU Vancouver, is housed in shelves opposite the checkout desk. The Surrey Library Reserve collection is next to the Circulation Desk.
To find specific Reserve materials, click on the Reserves link on the SFU Library homepage. Reserve materials can be found by course number or by instructor's name. Each title for a course will be identified and there may be several copies of each item. Lecture tapes are listed separately from other Reserve materials but can be found under course number or instructor's name.
Reserves materials are grouped in designated areas: books, photocopies, Prof's copies, etc. To locate a specific item, write down the classification number (e.g. PHOTOCOPY 5328) and locate the item on the shelf. If you are unable to locate an item, check with counter staff for assistance.
Borrowing Reserve materials
Reserves materials must be checked out before being removed from the Reserves area. Checkout Reserves material at the Reserves desk in the Bennett Library or at the Circulation Desk at the Belzberg Library or Fraser Library. To use Reserves you must have a regular SFU Library card.
Reserve materials have short loan periods (2 hours to 7 days) to allow greater access to these materials for all students in the course. Fines are steep to encourage prompt return: $1.00 per hour per item when the Library is open.
Borrowers will receive a date due slip for Reserve materials, which indicates a specific date and time for the return of the material. Overnight loans for Reserves materials will accord with the following loan periods:
Due to the short loan periods, Reserve materials cannot be transferred between Belzberg, Bennett, and Fraser, so they must be returned to the same library where they were borrowed.

**NOTE: In the event of labor disputes or similar disruptions to normal library services, patrons are responsible for returning materials within the specified loan periods.**
Renewals
Reserve items may be renewed if there is no hold on the item. The first three renewals only may be done on-line, in person, or by phoning Reserves at the library where the item was originally checked out, 778.782.4345 (Bennett)/778.782.5050 (Belzberg)/778.782.7411(Surrey). All subsequent renewals must be done in-person, with materials at hand, at the Reserves service desk where it was originally checked out.
Requesting Reserve material
Patrons may place a Request on any Reserve item at the site where it is checked out. Only one request per item and per borrower is allowed. Holds can be placed in person or by phone: Bennett (778.782.4345), Belzberg (778.782.5050), or Surrey (778.782.7411). When returned, requested items will be held for one hour from time due or time returned late, whichever is later. Items not picked up before expiry time will be returned to shelf for circulation.
Fines
Due to the high demand for these materials and necessity for prompt return, Reserve fines are $1.00 per hour for each hour the library is open ($50.00 maximum per item). Fines and suspension of borrowing privileges will start as soon as a Reserve item is overdue whether or not a HOLD has been placed. After $50.00 maximum has been reached, additional processing and replacement charges will be assessed.
Patrons with overdue items will be suspended from borrowing any Reserve item until the material is returned and the fine is paid.
