How to get a library card as an alumni

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I am an alumni and would like to obtain an SFU Library Card. I no longer have my library card as it has been several decades since I was enrolled at the Burnaby campus. What form of identification do I need to present in order to obtain a card? What is the cost of obtaining the card?

Accessing an article

Q. I am trying to access this article but cannot due to too many redirects. Can you help?

Subscription for Archaeology Southwest

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I've noticed that the online subscription for "Archaeology Southwest, Tucson, AZ : Center for Desert Archaeology 1999" only goes until  the end of 2010, although the print subscription is current.

Is this an error? Or, alternately, is it possible to get the online subscription for those of us based in Vancouver?

Library access for alumni

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I am a working in R&D. I have done some research in SFU library alumni access as many of the people in my department are SFU alumni. To my understanding, alumni eventually lose a lot of the access they had as students. I understand that we do have access to some resources, the search capabilities, and open access documents - but not the full suite that students/staff have.

Lost SFU ID

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I requested to borrow two books from the library, and was notified that the books were on hold for me. I realized that I had lost my SFU ID card. Is there any way to still pick up the books?

A. Yes, once a semester you can use another kind of photo ID (like a driver's license or passport). You can get a replacement ID card at Student Services.

Q. Please get more laptop chargers other than for apple products.

A. Thank you for your suggestion. We're investigating which chargers to purchase. If you have specific suggestions, please let the staff at Belzberg know.

When placing a book on hold

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. How long does it take if it says cataloging! It says I’m #1 in queue but there was already a request before me when I clicked, and turned to 2 after I requested. Does that mean I’m first still?

Reduced library hours during spring semester break

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. I'm extremely surprised and very inconvenienced by your reduced hours during spring semester "break". This is not a break for me while I work on my final masters project and there were many students in there yesterday getting kicked out at the unreasonable time of 5pm. I know there were other SFU students in Belzberg prepping for practicums and I have no doubt other graduate students working on projects that don't stop at the end of semester. The staff don't make eye contact when security kicks you out either.

Returning books

Published by Dipa Barua

Q. Can I return a library book to Belzberg Library instead of taking it to WAC Bennett?

A. Yes, you can if it is a regular loan, but not if it is a reserves item.
