Renaming the Bennett Library

Q: In light of SFUs proclaimed commitments to reconciliation and the library as a public space for community learning, it would be wonderful to see SFU put forward the action to rename the WAC Bennett Library.The opening statement on SFUs 2019/2020 Annual Report on Reconciliation states, "There is no endeavour more important to Canada’s well-being than the national process of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. With this in mind, we at Simon Fraser University have committed ourselves to serve as an instrument for reconciliation" (p.3).

Seed library

Q: Does SFU have a seed library similar to other educational institutions such as UBC, BCIT, and Kwantlen University, promoting food security and exchange of seeds? And if not, is it possible to start this initiative at the SFU Burnaby Library? Currently, there is no seed library in the Burnaby area.

Censoring Freedom to Read Week?

Q: This link (and others) were published to a "Freedom to Read Week" listing. Unfortunately none of the SFU pages are actually readable and are inaccessible to the public. Ironic?

Access to Bilingual Research Journal

Q: I can't get access to the following journal article online: Lee, Jin Sook, & Oxelson, Eva. (2006). "It's Not My Job": K-12 Teacher Attitudes Toward Students' Heritage Language Maintenance. Bilingual Research Journal, 30(2), 453–477.

The error message that I'm getting from Google Chrome is that "www-tandfonline-com.proxy.lib.sfu.ca redirected you too many times." I cleared the cookies but it didn't make a difference.

Inter-library loan for The Papers of Chief John Ross

Q: I am working on a research project and am in need of a book for references. It looks like your library had the book in ebook form which would make the reference search easier by using keyword searches. I was wondering if it was possible to obtain the ebook via inter-library loan?

The books are: The Papers of Chief John Ross, vol. 1 and The Papers of Chief John Ross, vol. 2.

Accessing Fundamentals of Microfluidics

Q: There is a difference between a book I found on the SFU Library website and the link it sends me to when I try to access it. The ISBN number is 978-0812974416. The two websites do not show the same book. Could you advise?

A: Thanks for bringing this incorrect edition's catalogue record to our attention. We will work with our catalogue vendor to remove this content.

NFB campus access link

Q: The NFB Campus Access link for the video, "The Sterilization of Leilani Muir" (National Film Board of Canada) doesn't seem to be working. The link takes me to the NFB site, but there is no online access to the film.

A: We've contacted the vendor and believe that the problem has been resolved.

Subscription to EdCan network

Q: I am wondering why the SFU library does not have a subscription to the EdCan network?

A: The library is in fact subscribed to Education Canada magazine. The library has it in print format since the as early as 1969 and it is also indexed in one of our subscribed databases “Education Source” with full text since 2002. As an open access journal, the record also refers to the journal’s archive on its website.
